PRODUCT QUESTIONS & STORAGE TIPS

Where do you get your sea salt from?

Saltwest handcrafts sea salt from our Canadian coastal waters on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. In a small sea sde town called Sooke, we collect sea water transport it back to our facility were we filter, desalinate and reduce the seawater with heat until we are left with sea salt crystals. We make food grade salt and bath salts.

We also feature a seasoning salt called Sousa's Seasoning that has Portuguese sea salt. It will be under our Saltwest Land and Sea brand.

Can I put my sea salt in a salt shaker?

No, the sea salt is free of anti-caking chemicals so it will absorb moisture from the air and clump. The stand up pouch is a re-sealable bag to prevent moisture absorption or you can put it in a small glass jar with a lid.

Where is the best place to store the sea salt when I am not using it?

We recommend storing the sea salt in cool, dark and dry place away from direct sunlight. Try the fridge! I know, it sounds weird but it is cold & dark and keeps the salt from absorbing moisture so it will extend its shelf life.

How long will the sea salt last?

  • FOOD SALTS are best used after purchase and should be used within 2 years of purchase. The spices will start to loose their flavour after 2 years. The only exception is our Raincoast Flor de Sal, it does not have a shelf life as their is no additional ingredients mixed into it.

  • BATH SALTS are best used with in 1 year of purchase as we use natural essential oils and these are very delicate and lose their scent over time. Store the bath salts in a cool, dark and dry place and reseal the zip top.
